Did you know PVC takes around 450+ years to break down? Not good news for our environment. However TPU (the material we use for the waterproof layer) only takes 3-5 years. This IS good news for our earth. So depending on the frequency of use and care, Bed Mates can last anywhere from 1-5 years. See below for tips on longevity.

Due to the fact that our products do not contain PVC, they will not last forever. Which is good news for our environment! To get the most out of your Bed Mates follow these tips.

• Wash in cold water on a delicate cycle
• Use a sensitive laundry liquid
• Dry in the shade
• Avoid heat and dryers
• Have at least 2 or 3 on rotation

The top layer is 70% bamboo, 30% cotton, the absorbent middle layer is polyester fleece and the bottom waterproof layer is an OEKO-TEX certified TPU membrane on a polyester backing.

Only the bamboo/cotton layer touches the child's skin.

Our waterproof wings are polyester jersey fabric with OEKO-TEX certified TPU membrane.

All our waterproof bedding is 100% free from PVC, lead, formaldehyde and flame retardants and our waterproof layer is OEKO-TEX certified. The absorbent layer is made from a polyester fleece for the high absorbency however this layer does not touch the skin.

Our sizes are the same as standard bed sizes. So if you have a single bed, you can order a single Bed Mate or doona cover. However due to the fact that the Bed Mates are not fitted, the sizing is quite versatile. You can go up a size or two and it will still work fine.

While our doona covers certainly LOOK like regular doona covers, the waterproof membrane means they act very differently to regular doona covers. One thing you will notice is they can come out of the washing machine very wet, making them take a lot longer to dry. Here are some great tips to avoid this.

1- Make sure the doona cover is inside out as this is where the 'wetness' is.

2- Add 2 towels to the washing machine with the doona cover. The doona cover will come out DRAMATICALLY less wet than when it's on it's own. The towels absorb some of the water, and then it gets spun out on the spin cycle.

3. With the towels still in the machine, give the load an extra spin cycle.

4. Line dry inside out or use the dryer. If using the dryer put it on the low setting. Add a set of dryer balls to the load. They can be found here. The dryer balls absorb the extra moisture on the waterproof side of the doona cover. If you do not have dryer balls you can also add a dry towel to the load.

20mls 4% Bleach (4 teaspoons)

Laundry Tub Soak (40L)

80mls 4% Bleach (1/3 cup)

1/2 Bathtub Soak (80L)
160ml 4% Bleach (2/3 cup)

Process

1. Mix the bleach well with cold water in your chosen vessel
   
2. Submerge the nappies (doona covers), put a timer on for between 30-45 minutes, no longer
   
3. Drain tub, do not wring out, rinse with hot water in top loader, or by hand 
   
4. Put them through your new and improved wash cycle on hot (max 60C), with your strong detergent
   
5. Dry how you like
   

We generally recommend washing in cold water as heat can affect the life of the waterproof fabric, however they can withstand a 60C cycle once a month or so to get rid of the smell, if the smell is becoming bothersome.
